Baobab Fare always hits the mark; a memorable taste of East African cuisine and culture in Detroit

Hamissi Mamba and his wife have a very inspiring story. Both immigrated to the United States from Africa and established Baobab Fare after participating in pop-ups serving dishes from Burundi and introducing East African cuisine to Detroit.

About Me

a passion for food

I’ve always enjoyed two things in life: food and telling stories. I worked in the food industry for about ten years since I was 14 before fully committing to my career in news. I’ve also been an avid storyteller for as long as I can remember, from crazy (but perhaps somewhat creative) adventure stories I’d write as a kid, reciting fond memories or life experiences with friends and family, or to my 11 years informing viewers across the country as a journalist.

This website is the culmination of my passions for food and storytelling and the vehicle by which I hope to share the stories of chefs, restaurateurs, and fellow foodies across Michigan.
